Many happy with the appointment of Ramathuba as Limpopo premier

The appointment of Dr Phophi Ramathuba as the first female premier of Limpopo has been received positively.

She was officially sworn in on Friday, June 14 at the Limpopo Legislative Chambers in Lebowakgomo. Messages of congratulations have been pouring in with Limpopians showing their satisfaction on social media. Ramathuba was the MEC of Health and was a firm favourite to become premier. Independent political analyst, Solly Rashilo, said Ramathuba’s appointment was to be expected.

“She has displayed leadership skills and her abilities well. “During the Covid-19 pandemic, she managed to attract positive media attention, outside the boundaries of a politician,” he said. “We saw her being bold about the influx of foreigners without legal documentation seeking healthcare. “Things like that are what people want to hear about, but in many cases politicians are scared to address it.”

Rashilo said she has also outperformed her male counterparts. “Her work has drawn national attention,” he explained. She has also been mentioned as a future Minister of Health. Rashilo said that it is a possibility, especially if the ANC gains more support. “But in a government of national unity, her chances may be slim.”
