New FF Plus councillor for Greater Tzaneen Municipality

Pierre Welthagen has been sworn in as the new FF Plus councillor in the Greater Tzaneen Municipality, vowing to improve the town's infrastructure.

TZANEEN – Pierre Welthagen was officially sworn in as the new Freedom Front Plus (FF Plus) councillor in the Greater Tzaneen Municipality (GTM).

Magistrate Mahlodi Mphaho administered the oath during the fifth special Greater Tzaneen Council meeting at the Old Fire Hall on Monday afternoon.

The ceremony was witnessed by council members, Welthagen’s brother Werner, sister-in-law Althea, and former FF Plus councillor André Moss.

Welthagen steps into the role following Moss, who has now joined the Limpopo Legislature after the death of Limpopo FF Plus leader Marcelle Maritz in October.

Despite the significant responsibility, Welthagen expressed enthusiasm about his new position, recognising the challenge of filling Moss’s shoes.

He joined the FF Plus in 2021 and serves as the vice chairperson of the Letaba Tzaneen branch.

“My focus as a councillor will be on the town’s infrastructure, including water, electricity, and roads. I’m not happy with the state of the CBD; it is untidy, and a lot needs to change. I’m committed to making our town a better place for all,” Welthagen said.

GTM Mayor Gerson Molapisane welcomed Welthagen to the council with a warm handshake.
