From Nkowankowa to the soccer commentary spotlight
Mixo Kubayi (37), a soccer commentator, is making his mark with humour, insight, and passion for the game.
TZANEEN – Mixo Kubayi, a 37-year-old soccer commentator is steadily pursuing his dream of becoming a prominent voice in sports commentary.
Growing up in Nkowankowa, Mixo developed a love for sports, not as a player, but as a devoted spectator.
His passion for commentary was sparked early in life as he listened to soccer games on the radio, marvelling at how commentators brought the matches to life.
It was not until 2017 that Mixo began his journey as a full-time commentator during the annual Nkowankowa Community Games.
Since then, he has lent his voice to numerous tournaments, captivating audiences with his unique blend of humour, insight, and charisma.
Known for his ability to infuse humour into any situation, Mixo’s commentary is both entertaining and engaging.
He credits his people skills and familiarity with many of the players on the field as key factors.
Mixo draws inspiration from celebrated commentators like Baba Mthethwa and Peter Ndlovu, whose talents he deeply admires.
“They make the game of soccer fun to watch with their unique styles of commentating,” he says.
Although Mixo currently works as a courier driver, his heart belongs to the soccer field. When he’s not working, you’ll likely find him at a stadium or local soccer field, passionately commentating on matches.
His ultimate dream is to work for a major radio station like Mughana Lonene FM as a professional soccer commentator.
