Eskom warns of possible Stage 4 loadshedding
Eskom warns of high-risk load shedding after 10 months of stable power, citing generator breakdowns and depleted emergency reserves.
LIMPOPO – Eskom has issued a high-risk alert for potential load shedding, marking a significant development after over ten months of uninterrupted electricity supply.
The announcement follows the success of Eskom’s Generation Recovery Plan, which stabilised power output for an extended period.
In a statement issued today (January 31), Eskom Group Chief Executive Dan Marokane described the situation as a “potentially temporary setback.” He explained that recent breakdowns in the generation fleet over the past week have required extended repair times, depleting emergency reserves.
“Over the past seven days, we have experienced several breakdowns that require extended repair times. This has necessitated the use of all our emergency reserves, which now need to be replenished.”
Eskom will continue to monitor the situation but loadshedding up to Stage 4 may be implemented over the weekend.
