GBV activist competes for Miss Bachelorette title

Tiyani Vukeya competes in Miss Bachelorette SA to amplify her voice, empower communities, and advocate for change.

LIMPOPO – Gender-based violence (GBV) activist Tiyani Vukeya is ready to become the next Miss Bachelorette SA.

The 25-year-old from Mulamula village outside Giyani, says GBV is a national crisis that demands urgent attention, and she would like to utilise pageant platforms to amplify her voice by joining the fight against GBV.

“My dream is to inspire meaningful change and leave a lasting impact. Despite my height and body shape, I’m reminded that this journey is not about physical appearance, but about the change I want to bring. I envision empowering women and men, girls, and boys worldwide, celebrating our unique strengths, and promoting a culture of self-love, self-acceptance, and inner beauty that transcends borders and boundaries.”

As one of 14 finalists in Miss Bachelorette SA, she is appreciative of the opportunity. She believes she deserves the crown because of her passion for children and dedication to fighting GBV.

“The way we raise and nurture our children shapes the individuals they become. By promoting healthy upbringing and exposure, we can prevent the formation of harmful attitudes and behaviours that contribute to violence. Unfortunately, many children suffer in silence from abuse so hence why I’m dedicated to rescuing and supporting these vulnerable children while raising awareness and educating parents and the community on the critical importance of nurturing and protecting our children.”

Tiyani adds that it is crucial to give the same attention to girls and boys.

She has an advanced diploma in accounting from the Vaal University of Technology and also holds an advanced certificate in financial planning from Mancosa. She currently works as an administrator in the legal field.

She is inspired by former Miss South Africa and Miss Universe, Zozibini Ntuzi whose courage and conviction on the Miss Universe stage left a lasting impression on her.

The Miss Bachelorette SA pageant event is scheduled to take place on April 26 at Gold Reef City in Johannesburg.
