Northern Warriors fall to Louis Trichardt in close rugby clash
Warriors lose 17-12 to Louis Trichardt but remain optimistic, focusing on teamwork, fitness, and building support for future matches.
LIMPOPO – Despite a hard-fought battle, Northern Warriors Rugby Club fell 17-12 to Louis Trichardt on Saturday, March 29.
However, the team remains hopeful for the future.
Speaking to the Herald, Warriors director Reply Nyathi attributed the loss to the absence of key players, as many of them work on weekends, particularly at the end of the month.
“We didn’t have our full squad available, but I’m proud of the fight we put up,” Nyathi said.
He also expressed concerns over some of the referee’s decisions, which he believed played a role in the outcome.
Despite the setback, Nyathi remains upbeat about the team’s progress.
“Considering we are a newly formed team and still managed to compete with alternative players, it gives me great joy,” he added.
The match provided valuable lessons, including the importance of teamwork and unselfish play.
“We need to ensure we pass to teammates in better positions rather than playing individually,” Nyathi noted. A standout moment came when rookie Kamogelo Modikwe scored a remarkable try, breaking through five defenders.
“He’s only been playing rugby for three weeks, yet he’s already making an impact. It’s a testament to the hard work we put in as a team,” said Nyathi, emphasising the importance of fitness as their next area of focus. On the defensive front, Nyathi praised the team’s improvement.
“We didn’t have much possession, but we defended well, keeping the scoreline close,” he explained.
Looking ahead, the Warriors are preparing for their next match against the University of Limpopo on Saturday, April 12, as part of Warriors Sports Day at Impala Park Stadium.
Nyathi is calling on the community to come out in support of the team.
As a newly established club, the Warriors are also seeking sponsors.
