Tzaneen Chamber honours finest residents with awards

The Tzaneen Chamber of Commerce celebrated local excellence at its annual awards, recognising businesses, community leaders, and inspiring individuals.

TZANEEN – The Tzaneen Chamber of Commerce recently hosted its annual awards ceremony at the Hotel@Tzaneen conference venue, celebrating the outstanding contributions of individuals and businesses within the local community.

The glitzy event was a night of recognition, as the chamber honoured those who have shown exceptional dedication, innovation, and service. Chairperson Naomi Excell opened the evening by noting that the event was more than just a celebration of business excellence. “Tonight, we are not just here to recognise business excellence but also to honour the hard work, dedication, and innovation that drive our local economy forward. This is an opportunity to acknowledge the remarkable individuals and organisations that continue to inspire and lead by example,” she said.

Among those recognised was Vutivi I Ndzhaka, a non-profit organisation that received a Certificate of Merit for its work in empowering and mentoring rural learners. Salome Loucao was also honoured for her role as a member of the Community Policing Forum and her collaboration with police in assisting women and children who need trauma counselling.

Azelle Grobler was acknowledged for her compassion and commitment to animal welfare in the Tzaneen area through her organisation, Beyond Borders, which serves as a sanctuary for rescued animals. Another Certificate of Merit was awarded to DA councillor Chrisma Bredenkamp for her efforts in addressing water supply challenges and acting as a liaison between the Tzaneen community and the Greater Tzaneen Municipality.

The title of Ambassador of the Year went to George Phakula in recognition of his annual charity run from Mokopane to Tzaneen. The initiative raises funds to provide school uniforms for underprivileged rural learners and has become a symbol of community spirit and generosity.

Fidelis Nyikadzino, a waiter at Olive Tree Coffee and Gifts, was awarded the Employee Excellence Award for his cheerful and consistent service. Rhino Chemicals was named the Friendliest Business of the Year, while Lané Kruger, manager of Hotel@Tzaneen, took home the Manager of the Year title.

Lucille Husselman of Jumpen-Go was celebrated as the Emerging Entrepreneur of the Year. The Small to Medium Enterprise of the Year award went to Moya Blight for her business, Mixx Cement.

The evening’s highest honour, Businessperson of the Year, was awarded to Theuns Joubert, owner of the Salom Group, for his continued impact and leadership in the business sector.
