Gravelotte Primary choir shines in debut
Gravies' Gr 2 choir claimed second place in their first-ever competition, earning praise and setting sights on the district finals.
LIMPOPO – The walls of Lulekani Community Hall echoed with joyful melodies on Friday, April 25, as the Gravies choir from Gravelotte Primary School stole hearts and claimed second place in their very first choir competition.
Competing in the Western category, the talented Gr 2 choir charmed the audience with their spirited performance of “Happy Family”, earning them a well-deserved spot on the winners’ list.
What makes this achievement even more remarkable is that it marks the school’s debut in the choral scene.
“This was the first time our school participated in a choir competition, and to see our learners excel like this is simply incredible,” said acting principal Shilla Hlungwani.
“Our Gr 2 choir is a talented group of young singers stepping onto the stage for the first time. Despite being newcomers, they shone with confidence and enthusiasm,” she added.
Hlungwani, a passionate music lover, shared that the idea of starting a school choir had been her dream since joining the school in 2022.
“I envisioned a choir at our school and took the initiative to make it happen. We are thrilled to see that vision come to life,” she said.
The young choir is led by Macie Kulani, a dedicated music teacher whose guidance and commitment have helped transform the group into a confident ensemble ready for the next level.
With their recent success, the Gravies Choir now has their sights set on the district competition, which will take place in Phalaborwa on Saturday, May 17.
“We want to deliver another outstanding performance and hope to potentially proceed to the provincial competition,” said Hlungwani.
