SCS learners experience luxury tourism at Tanda Tula

The Gr 11 tourism learners enjoyed a hands-on luxury hospitality experience at Tanda Tula Safari Camp, gaining real-world industry insight.

LIMPOPO – Southern Cross Schools (SCS) Gr 11 tourism learners had the opportunity to see world-class hospitality in action during a visit to the exclusive Tanda Tula Safari Camp in the Timbavati Nature Reserve.

From the moment they arrived, learners were treated like family.

“They were welcomed with refreshing drinks while elephants grazed nearby and were then offered a spontaneous and delicious breakfast spread that set the tone for the rest of their 5-star adventure,” SCS’s Alex Adams said.

“The luxurious suites with their calming interiors, private plunge pools and high-end finishes provided the perfect backdrop for a stay filled with comfort and fine pleasures. A lunchtime drumming performance by SCS old boys, now working in the industry, was a highlight and a proud moment for our school. The quiet setting of the camp allowed learners to connect meaningfully with the staff, gaining insight into daily operations, guest relations and the high standards expected in the tourism industry. Chef Ryan impressed everyone with his skill, running a top-tier kitchen with care and precision,” he said.

The afternoon game drive delivered unforgettable moments, including a close encounter with a leopard dragging its kill into a tree and a sighting of a pride of 14 lions heading to a waterhole.

“Giraffes, elephants and other wildlife added to the excitement, all capped off with a stunning bushveld sundowner. A final early morning game drive and a scenic bush breakfast beside the river brought the trip to a magical close. Learners returned home not only inspired but also equipped with real-world knowledge of top-end tourism operations.”

Adams thanked the Tanda Tula team for hosting the SCS learners and making it an educational adventure to remember.
