GTM unveils high-tech roadblock trailer

GTM has introduced a high-tech roadblock trailer to improve road safety, enforce traffic fines, and boost revenue through smart technology.

TZANEEN – The Greater Tzaneen Municipality (GTM) has taken delivery of a state-of-the-art roadblock traffic accident railer, aimed at improving road safety, enhancing enforcement, and boosting municipal revenue through advanced technology.

The high-tech trailer, purchased at a cost of R458 000, was delivered on June 5 and has been operational since Monday (June 9). The trailer was handed over to the municipal traffic team by the director of Community Services, Cate Ntimbani, during a brief ceremony on the R71.

“This trailer represents a major step forward in how we manage road safety and law enforcement,” said Ntimbani.

“It will not only support our officers in responding to road incidents more efficiently but will also allow us to electronically track outstanding traffic tickets and fines, some of which date back to 2021.”

According to André Liversage, GTM licensing manager, the new trailer is equipped with an integrated system that can automatically detect and flag vehicles with unpaid fines.

All outstanding fines from as far back as 2021 have already been uploaded to the system, enabling immediate identification and enforcement at roadblocks.

“This innovation will directly contribute to increasing our municipal revenue,” Ntimbani added, noting that the trailer is expected to improve compliance and encourage motorists to settle overdue fines promptly.

Local motorists are advised to check their records and settle any outstanding violations to avoid potential on-the-spot penalties when the trailer becomes fully operational next week.

Ntimbani emphasised that the investment reflects its ongoing commitment to improving public safety and modernising local governance through smart infrastructure.
