Frans du Toit High coach to lead Limpopo school cricket

Sean Knoetze has been appointed as the new chair of Limpopo school cricket, aiming to boost match opportunities and talent.

LIMPOPO  – Sean Knoetze of Frans du Toit High School has been named the new chairperson of High School Cricket in Limpopo.

Knoetze, who works as a sports organiser and coach at the Fransies, shared his excitement about the appointment in an interview with the Herald.

“I’m over the moon with this opportunity and ready for the challenge ahead,” he said. “My vision is to reignite passion for cricket in the province and elevate the sport to the same level of respect as rugby and other major sporting codes. One of my key goals is to build a strong provincial team that can compete with top schools from Pretoria.”

Knoetze identified a major obstacle facing cricket in Limpopo: the lack of regular game time. Unlike rugby and soccer, which are played throughout the year, cricket tends to be limited to a short season.

“While our schools play around 10 to 20 matches a year, schools in Pretoria often play between 50 and 100 games annually,” he explained. “We need to change that. Cricket is actually a year-round sport, and increasing match opportunities will help raise the standard of play. There’s plenty of talent in this region, we just need to give our players more chances to showcase and develop it.”

Originally from Pretoria, Knoetze has been passionate about sports since childhood. He played for the first cricket team at Wonderboom High School and later earned a qualification in sport management from what was then Centurion Academy, now called NewBridge Institute College.

He also holds a project management qualification, which he says helps him in administrative and leadership roles.

Frans du Toit High School has congratulated Knoetze on his new role and wished him a successful term as he takes on the responsibility of shaping the future of school cricket in Limpopo.
