Escaped Maake prisoner re-arrested

Maake police seek escaped burglary suspect Mola Matome Reuben Modiba, urging public to report sightings and avoid direct contact for safety reasons.

LIMPOPO – Police have successfully re-arrested 29-year-old Matome Reuben Modiba, an awaiting trial prisoner who escaped from lawful custody at the Maake Police Station on Monday, June 30. He was apprehended at his homestead in Tickyline Village today (Thursday, July 3).

Brigadier Hlulani Mashaba, the spokesperson for the police, says members of the Maake Task Team, Detectives on standby, and Maake Visible Policing acted swiftly upon receiving a tip-off about the suspect’s whereabouts. Upon arriving at the residence, they located Modiba hiding on the property and effected the arrest without incident.

The suspect is expected to appear in the Ritavi Magistrate’s Court tomorrow (July 4) where he will face charges of escaping from lawful custody and burglary.

LIMPOPO – Maake Police have launched a manhunt for 29-year-old Mola Matome Reuben Modiba, who escaped from police custody on Monday afternoon (June 30).

Modiba was awaiting trial in connection with a burglary at a residential property, reported in April this year.

He had just been formally charged by a detective when he allegedly fled while being escorted back to the holding cells.

The circumstances surrounding the escape are currently under investigation. A specialised team of detectives has been appointed to track down the fugitive.

Authorities have urged members of the public not to approach Modiba if spotted, as he may pose a risk to their safety.

Instead, anyone with information regarding his whereabouts is encouraged to contact Captain Morwamokhono Kekana on 082 319 9742, the Crime Stop number 08600 10111, their nearest police station, or use the MySAPSApp.
