Community rallies after Lowveld Academy fire

After a fire gutted Lowveld Academy’s admin block, the Hoedspruit community rallied with heartfelt support.

HOEDSPRUIT – Following a fire that severely damaged the administration building of Lowveld Academy on the evening of Tuesday, July 1, local schools and community members have come forward to show their support for the affected learners and staff.

The fire, which destroyed the thatched-roof office building, fortunately occurred during the school holiday, preventing any injuries. Still, the incident left a significant emotional and operational impact on the school.

Drakensig Primary expressed sympathy and relief that no one was harmed.

“All staff and teachers are in our prayers. We are very grateful this did not happen during school hours. We are keeping you in our thoughts as you rebuild,” the school shared.

Hoedspruit High School also sent a heartfelt message of support.

“Our hearts go out to all the learners, teachers, and staff affected. A school is more than walls; it’s a home for dreams and growth. We stand with you in this difficult time and send strength as you begin the rebuilding process.”

Tilana Harding, speaking on behalf of Lowveld Academy, expressed deep gratitude for the rapid response of the Town Watch, the Hoedspruit Fire Brigade, and all first responders.

“Thanks to their heroic efforts, the fire was contained to our administration block. All classrooms and other school facilities were spared,” she said. “This incident has reminded us of the incredible strength and unity within our community. The immediate outpouring of support has been a powerful testament to the spirit that makes our town so special.”

Despite the setback, Harding confirmed the school remains fully committed to deliver high-quality education The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
