100-year-old Lenyenye woman finally receives smart ID

After months without her old-age grant, 100-year-old Koko Maenetja has finally received her smart ID with exclusive help from the Premier.

TZANEEN – After months of heartbreak and financial struggle, 100-year-old Koko Mmakoto Maenetja from Mojeteng village finally has a reason to smile.

On July 5, Limpopo Premier Dr Phophi Ramathuba personally intervened to ensure that the elderly woman, who had lost her green ID and missed out on three months of her old-age grant, received a smart ID.

“When we learned that Koko Maenetja had lost her green ID and was unable to replace it promptly, therefore missing out on her old-age grant, it was heart-wrenching,” said Ramathuba.

“We realised that we needed to intervene to ensure she receives her smart ID and, more importantly, her dignity,” she said.

“It became evident that Koko Maenetja may not be the only one facing challenges in the area. Thus, we have mobilised our resources to spend the day in the village, assisting residents
in accessing government services.”

In addition, the premier donated a wheelchair, and the Department of Social Development helped her with food parcels.
