Giyani police search for man after girlfriend killed

Police have launched a manhunt for a man accused of killing his girlfriend in Shawela Village. Public urged to provide information.

LIMPOPO – Limpopo police have launched an intensive manhunt for a suspect accused of stabbing and killing his girlfriend in Shawela Village during the early hours of Sunday morning (August 17).

At around 01:35, officers responded to a report of a violent incident. On arrival, they discovered the body of a 36-year-old woman inside her home, with multiple stab wounds.

Police spokesperson Brigadier Hlulani Mashaba says that preliminary investigations suggest the victim had been involved in an altercation with her boyfriend, who fled the scene immediately after the attack.

The deceased was a resident of Shawela Village, while the suspect is believed to live in Shawela RDP.

A case of murder has been opened, with domestic conflict emerging as a possible motive, although investigations are ongoing.

Provincial police commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe condemned the killing and ordered that all available resources be deployed to track down the suspect.

Police are appealing to community members for assistance.
