Uplifted paving in Tzaneen CBD sparks safety concerns

Tzaneen residents have raised concerns over uplifted paving in the CBD, warning it poses safety risks while awaiting proper restoration.

TZANEEN – A Tzaneen resident has raised concern about paving that has been uplifted in the CBD, warning that it poses both a safety and aesthetic issue in the busy town centre.

The uneven paving, located along key pedestrian walkways, has drawn attention from community members who fear it may cause accidents for people walking in the area, particularly the elderly and children.

When contacted for comment, Greater Tzaneen Municipality (GTM) spokesperson Vutivi Makhubela distanced the municipality from the project.

“This is not our project, it is the WiFi people,” Makhubela told the Herald.

It is understood that the paving was lifted as part of infrastructure work linked to the rollout of public WiFi services in the CBD.

However, concerns remain about how long the paving will remain in disrepair and whether proper restoration will follow once the installations are complete.

At the time of going to print, it remained unclear as to when the paving in this area would be restored.
