Frans du Toit rugby stars honoured

Hoërskool Frans du Toit celebrated standout rugby achievements as players received top awards recognising dedication, skill, and a strong 2025 season.

PHALABORWA – Hoërskool Frans du Toit rugby first team captain, Dehan Peach, was the star of the night at the school’s annual rugby awards ceremony.

Peach walked away with three accolades, being named most dedicated player, set kicker of the year, and top points scorer of the season.

Kenny Moreku also made his mark, earning two awards for best defender and best try of the year. Jayden Taljard followed closely behind, receiving trophies for tour team player and most promising player of the year. The coveted player of the year title went to Shane Mmola, while his twin brother claimed the best forward player award.

Other honours went to Tumelo Poopedi, who was named most improved player, Steyn Cronjé as most consistent player, Lawrence Maswanganyi as best backline player, Prieur Lourens as most versatile player, and Olavi Muhela, who took home the award for most tries of the year.

Sean Knoetze, sports organiser, Shane Mmola and Frans du Toit principal, Johannes Janse van Rensburg.

Fransies sports organiser Sean Knoetze told the Herald that the event was held to recognise the players’ hard work and achievements throughout the season. He noted that while the team will lose 14 matric players next year, the remaining players are well-prepared to step up.

“The senior players have been grooming the younger ones, so those staying behind know what to do and have learned from the first team,” Knoetze said.

The Fransies first team qualified for the prestigious Noordvaal League after being crowned Limpopo division 3 champions in July.

Their hopes of becoming Noordvaal division 3 champions came to an end in the semi-finals after they were defeated 24-7 by Hoërskool Vryburg.

Knoetze concluded by stating that the team is proud of what it has accomplished this year and is already focussed on preparations for the 2026 season, with its first Noordvaal division 3 match scheduled for March 7.
