Mopani TVET students sweep top honours
Mopani TVET College excelled at the WorldSkills Limpopo competition, winning top honours across multiple skills categories.
LIMPOPO – Mopani TVET College has proudly emerged as one of the top performers at the WorldSkills South Africa Limpopo Provincial Competition, earning several top honours at the prestigious event held from October 27-31, at the college’s Phalaborwa and Sir Val Duncan campuses.
Students claim multiple top spots
The competition brought together outstanding students from all seven Limpopo TVET colleges to compete in 18 specialised skills categories, including engineering, hospitality, renewable energy, robotics, and artisan trades.
The week began with an induction and familiarisation process on Monday, followed by intense competitive activities from Wednesday as participants showcased innovation, technical precision, and creativity across various disciplines.
Mopani TVET College delivered an outstanding performance, establishing its reputation as a leading centre for vocational excellence. The college celebrated major victories across key skill areas.
In the renewable energy category, Xikhongelo Myeza claimed first place, demonstrating outstanding technical understanding and innovation in sustainable solutions.
Excellence in hospitality was also on display as Molatelo Nyalungu secured first place in restaurant services. The welding category proved to be another area of dominance for Mopani, with Polite Nyalungu achieving first place, followed by strong performances from Brilliant Matsane, who placed second, and Austin Raolane, who secured third place.
The college also celebrated podium finishes in other categories: Nyeleti Machimane earned third place in cooking, while the duo of Andries Mathebula and Risima Mukansi placed third in the mobile robotics competition.
Closing ceremony celebrates industry-ready talent
The closing ceremony, held at Sir Val Duncan Campus on Friday, was marked by excitement and pride as winners were honoured in front of peers, lecturers, and industry representatives. Mopani TVET College extended warm congratulations to its champions, commending them for their dedication, discipline, and commitment to excellence.
The event highlighted the importance of skilled trades in addressing South Africa’s economic needs, aligning vocational training with international standards to bridge the skills gap and boost employability. WorldSkills South Africa plays an important role in developing a highly skilled workforce and preparing young people for global competition.
Winners from this provincial round will now advance to the national WorldSkills stage, where they stand a chance to represent South Africa internationally.
