Prue Leith delights Magoebaskloof food scene

Celebrity chef Prue Leith visited Magoebaskloof eateries, praising local cuisine and impressing restaurants with her surprise appearance.

LIMPOPO – Celebrated South African British restaurateur, writer, novelist, and television personality Dame Prue Leith caused a stir in the local food scene when she visited Magoebaskloof restaurants and eateries.

At Blueberry Heights Farm Café, she was left thoroughly impressed by the food. Heather Gore, manager of the café, shared the excitement on their Facebook page.

“When Prue Leith tells you your breakfast was fantastic, you know you’re doing something right! What an honour for Blueberry Heights, we are blushing.”

According to Gore, Leith enjoyed a smoked trout sandwich, which she loved.

Leith was accompanied by her husband, John Playfair, as well as friends Tiny Barnetson and his wife.

Barnetson, who had invited Leith to visit the mountain area, brought the group in for breakfast on Monday, December 8.

“Leith and her husband said breakfast was fantastic, and Barnetson said she was very impressed with our food,” Gore told the Herald.

Blueberry Heights Farm Café has carved out a name for itself by offering a true farm-to-table experience. Situated on an organic blueberry and golden kiwi farm, the café serves fresh, seasonal meals unique to its mountain setting. Visitors can enjoy panoramic views, a peaceful atmosphere, and seasonal blueberry picking, with both indoor and outdoor family-friendly spaces available.

Leith also stopped by Bistro in Haenertsburg, where the restaurant shared their excitement on social media, saying they were honoured to host the renowned culinary figure.

Born in Cape Town before moving to Britain, Leith has built a distinguished international career. She has served as a judge on BBC Two’s Great British Menu, later joining The Great British Bake Off, and was the Chancellor of Queen Margaret University in Edinburgh from 2016 to 2024.
