Charities in Mopani to support this Christmas

From children’s homes to animal shelters and youth programmes, here are meaningful Mopani charities to support this Christmas and help uplift local communities.

LIMPOPO – The Christmas season is upon us, a time when families and friends come together, share meals, and reflect on the year that has passed.

However, not everyone has the privilege of enjoying a proper Christmas meal. This is why it is important to remember those who are underprivileged.

Here are some charities to consider supporting in and around the Mopani region:

  1. Noah’s Ark Children’s Home, Tzaneen

Noah’s Ark Children’s Home, situated on the outskirts of Tzaneen, takes in children from birth to 18 years old who are without families, neglected, have parents in jail, are abandoned, or come from broken homes.

Founded by Rémi and Desouiller in 2013, the property is divided into several sections, including the babies’ unit, pre-school, school area, boys’ house, and main house (which serves as the girls’ house), a kitchen, and living space.

A social worker is available from Monday to Friday, and a nurse visits three times a week to monitor the children’s health. The home has given countless children a second chance at life.

For more information, call 082 573 8383.

  1. Letaba SPCA, Tzaneen

The Letaba SPCA is an animal shelter with dedicated staff members who care for adopted, surrendered, and abandoned animals.

The festive season is especially busy, particularly on New Year’s Eve, when fireworks frighten pets and cause many to run away from home.

Shelters are always in need of dog and cat food, as well as financial support to help cover daily operational costs.

  1. Titirheleni Community Service Project, Letsitele

This organisation, located in Mafarana Village, cares for orphans and vulnerable children up to 18 years old. They provide meals, help with schoolwork, and offer various developmental activities.

Although they do not yet have a permanent shelter for children, the project’s founder has taken two orphans into her own home to care for them.
