Mpheni Home Defenders lead ABC Motsepe League at break
Mpheni Home Defenders top the ABC Motsepe League with a perfect start, edging Tzaneen United on goal difference as teams head into the festive break.

LIMPOPO – As the ABC Motsepe League heads into its festive season break, the competition has already taken shape, with Mpheni Home Defenders emerging as the standout side after an impressive start.
The Vhembe-based team has collected maximum points from their first four matches, placing them at the top of the log with 12 points and positioning them as early favourites in the title race.
Hot on their heels is Tzaneen United, who also sit on 12 points but trail Mpheni by a single goal on goal difference. The tight margin between the two sides adds an extra layer of excitement as teams head into the break, with both clubs showing strong intent in the early stages of the season.
Mpheni’s final fixture before the recess is a home clash against White Vultures, a team that has managed just one victory in four matches. The odds are stacked heavily in favour of the Home Defenders, who will benefit from their passionate home support and familiarity with their uneven home ground.

Meanwhile, Tzaneen United face a much tougher task as they travel to meet Mukondeni Young Chiefs in Vhembe district, currently third on the log with 10 points. Mukondeni have shown resilience and consistency, making this fixture one of the most crucial matchups before the break.
A loss for Tzaneen would see them drop to third place, with Young Chiefs potentially leapfrogging them by a single point. This makes the stakes very high for Tzaneen United as the outcome of this encounter could significantly influence their league standings going into the New Year.

At the opposite end of the table, Nkowankowa Continental are heading into the break in a difficult position after losing all four of their opening fixtures. With zero points, they occupy the bottom spot and will face an uphill battle to revive their season when the league resumes next year.
Meanwhile, several teams are finding this season more challenging than expected, including last season’s top performers. Phalaborwa United, who topped the standings last season and narrowly missed promotion during the play-offs, have struggled to replicate that form and are among the teams experiencing a difficult campaign.
Phalaborwa United are not alone in this. Vondwe Xi Bullets which finished the last season in second place are currently in position 5 with 6 points. They struggle to keep up with their last year’s performance.
