Discover Mopani’s hidden gems

Find affordable, cultural travel experiences that showcase Mopani’s beauty and empower local communities.

LIMPOPO – Founder of 1000 Limpopo Secrets, Thabiso Sekhula, is on a passionate mission to make Limpopo and her home district, Mopani, a must-visit destination for travellers of all budgets.

Through her platform, Sekhula promotes affordable, family-friendly, and culturally rich experiences that highlight the province’s beauty and heritage.

From scenic drives along the R36 and R71 to picnics at the Tzaneen Dam, Sekhula encourages locals and visitors alike to explore the district’s offerings.

She highlights accessible activities such as seeing the Makgobaskloof waterfall, visiting cultural sites like Baleni Salt Mines and Munti wa Vatsonga, and discovering hidden natural wonders like Lekgalametsi.

Through 1000 Limpopo Secrets, Sekhula also hosts community-driven festivals, markets, hikes, and guided tours.

These experiences give travellers the chance to interact with locals, learn beadwork, make clay pots, and taste authentic Limpopo cuisine.

“We want people to experience what we have to offer without having to travel too far or spend too much,” she says.

Sekhula believes that sustainable tourism begins with empowering communities.

By helping locals see value in their heritage and natural resources, she hopes to inspire preservation through participation.

“Even if you don’t have money, start with what you have, take drives, explore, and fall in love with your province, ” she concludes.
