14-year-old Limpopo boy charged with rape of minors

A 14-year-old boy is accused of luring two boys into bushes, raping one and forcing the other to sexually assault his friend in a Gravelotte attack.

LIMPOPO – A 14-year-old boy has appeared before the Namakgale Magistrate’s Court on Thursday (January 8), facing two counts of rape following an incident in Gravelotte last weekend.

According to police, the suspect lured two boys, aged 8 and 9, into nearby bushes along a railway line on Saturday afternoon (January 3). Preliminary reports indicate the suspect raped one victim and then compelled the second victim to sexually assault his friend.

The matter was reported to Gravelotte police on Tuesday (January 6) after the boys’ guardian was informed. Both children were taken for medical examination, which confirmed sexual intercourse.

Acting Provincial Commissioner Major General Jan Scheepers welcomed the swift arrest and urged parents and guardians to be vigilant in protecting children at all times.

Police spokesperson Brigadier Hlulani Mashaba confirmed the suspect will appear again at the Namakgale Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, February 5 for charges of rape and compelled rape.

Investigations are continuing.
