TZANEEN – Bolobedu police are searching for a 36-year-old man who attempted to rape his 57-year-old mother at their home in Motupa village.

The incident occurred on Thursday (January 15). Police spokesperson Brigadier Hlulani Mashaba says the victim was asleep in her bedroom when she felt someone covering her mouth with a cloth and saw her son attempting to rape her.

The victim tried to call for help from her mother, who was sleeping in a separate house on the property, but was unable to do so.

She did, however, manage to break free and ran to her mother’s house to report the assault. The suspect fled the scene before authorities arrived.

A case of attempted rape was opened with the local police. The Tzaneen Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) unit has launched a manhunt for the suspect.

Police are urging anyone with information that could assist in locating the man to contact the investigating officer, Sergeant Juliet Mathiba, on 072 838 6327, the Crime Stop number at 08600 10111, or use the MySAPS App.
