PCOG feed flood victims daily as recovery continues

The Phalaborwa Community of Givers provides daily hot meals and supplies to families still affected by the floods and ongoing outages.

PHALABORWA – The Phalaborwa Community of Givers (PCOG) continues to play an important role in supporting residents affected by the devastating floods by providing hot meals to flood victims every day, as the town struggles to recover from one of the worst disasters in its history.

Many residents were without water and electricity for up to ten days, while some are still facing the same challenges to this day. This led to food spoiling, families being unable to cook, and already vulnerable households facing hunger and distress. Numerous homes were flooded, possessions destroyed, and livelihoods disrupted, leaving many residents emotionally and psychologically affected.

In response to the crisis, concerned community members came together to find ways to assist those in need. What began as a simple conversation among residents quickly turned into action, with volunteers preparing and sharing food with affected families. This initiative soon grew into the Phalaborwa Community of Givers, a coordinated relief effort focused on meeting immediate humanitarian needs.

The initiative was established on January 18. One of the group’s main interventions has been the daily preparation and distribution of hot meals to flood victims and those assisting with recovery efforts. Volunteers work tirelessly, often under challenging conditions, to ensure that families receive at least one warm, nutritious meal a day.

Beyond feeding programmes, the PCOG also assists with basic household supplies, helping families cope while recovery and repair efforts continue.

The initiative has received strong support from residents, businesses, and donors, whose contributions of food, time, and resources have made the daily feeding programme possible.

Residents who wish to assist can make a tangible difference by donating food or household items. Donations may be dropped off at the Hervormde Kerk, 3 Jansen Street, Phalaborwa, or at the Tzaneen Showgrounds on the R71. Affected community members who require assistance can register or request help by visiting www.pcog.org.za or email info@pcog.org.za.
