Nkowankowa welcomes modern DZJ Mtebule School
Limpopo Education MEC opens upgraded DZJ Mtebule School in Nkowankowa, emphasising learner potential and community responsibility.
LIMPOPO – The South African Democratic Teachers’ Union (Sadtu) in Limpopo has called on the Department of Education to build more state-of-the-art schools across the province.
Speaking at the official opening of the newly built DZJ Mtebule Secondary School in Nkowankowa on Monday, February 9, Sadtu representative Lynette Nkhwashu said modern facilities should become the standard for all schools, not a privilege for a selected few.
Nkhwashu also urged community members to safeguard the new facility. She warned against vandalism and emphasised that protecting the school is a shared responsibility.
“As community members, it is your duty to protect the school’s property,” she said.
Limpopo Education MEC Mavhungu Lerule-Ramakhanya officially unveiled 27 newly built classrooms and eight renovated ones.
The upgraded infrastructure includes fully equipped life sciences and physical sciences laboratories.
Addressing the learners, Lerule-Ramakhanya encouraged them to see the new classrooms as more than just buildings.
“When you walk into these classrooms, do not just see four walls. See a launchpad,” she said.
“You are the reason this school was built. Your potential is Limpopo’s greatest natural resource. Dig for it, refine it, and shine so brightly that you light the way for those who come after you.”
Nkowankowa circuit manager Kenneth Mhlongo challenged both learners and teachers to aim for a 100% pass rate this year, saying the school now has all the necessary tools to deliver quality education.
The programme, directed by Mopani West Education District director Phillipine Modika, featured performances by the school choir and xibelana dancers.
Among the guests were members of the Nkuna Traditional Council, Corletta Mtebule, wife of the school’s first principal, pastors, members of the school governing body, and parents.
The event concluded with the MEC donating school shoes and sanitary pads to learners.
