Foundation donates school uniforms to 43 learners in Giyani
David Zitha’s Kokwani Dala Foundation gave back to his home community in Giyani by providing uniforms to 43 learners.
LIMPOPO – Driven by a deep personal connection and a strong sense of community responsibility, the Kokwani Dala Foundation has extended meaningful support to disadvantaged learners at Jim Nghalalume Primary School in Jim village.
The foundation, established by David Zitha, who is widely known as the Kokwani Dala, seeks to restore dignity and improve the quality of life for those struggling with poverty.
Zitha, who was born and raised in the village, said the decision to begin the initiative at his former school was both intentional and deeply personal.
He explained that his connection to the school and community motivated him to give back where his journey began.
“This organisation was established to assist disadvantaged people, and it does not focus only on Jim but also extends its support to other areas where intervention is needed,” he said.
“However, I chose to start here because I was born in this village and attended this school.
“As they say, charity begins at home. I wanted to set an example so that when we assist other communities, people would not say we neglected our own,” he added.
His foundation donated full school uniforms to 43 learners during the event held on Friday.
However, Zitha indicated that his foundation relies on donations and goodwill from members of the public, saying community support remains essential to sustaining its mission.
“Our work is made possible through the contributions from ordinary people.
“We encourage anyone who can assist to come forward so that together we can make a difference in the lives of disadvantaged children,” he said.
School principal Sevha Maswanganyi said the donation would have a profound impact on learners who face daily challenges due to poverty in the area.
He explained that teachers witness first-hand the emotional and psychological effects that financial hardship has on children.
“Those who do not have proper uniforms often lack confidence.
“They shy away from participating in class activities and sometimes hesitate to raise their hands because they feel uncomfortable and embarrassed,” he explained.
Meanwhile, the school governing body (SGB) chairperson, Eric Maluleke, described the initiative as a vital intervention that goes beyond providing clothing.
He called on community members, businesses, and other stakeholders to support similar efforts.
