Spar Hoedspruit helps learners step into school

The My Spar Bata Little Shoes, Big Smiles campaign donated over 100 pairs of school shoes to learners at Mugidi Primary in Hoedspruit.

HOEDSPRUIT – The spirit of community generosity was on full display this year as the My Spar Bata Little Shoes, Big Smiles back-to-school campaign drew to a successful close at Mugidi Primary School.

Now in its second year in partnership with Spar Hoedspruit, the campaign brought new shoes and smiles to over 100 young learners, helping them start the school year with confidence and comfort.

The initiative, aimed at ensuring that children have proper school footwear, relies on the generosity of the local community.

Residents were encouraged to support the campaign by shopping at Spar Hoedspruit: vouchers from purchases of R350 or more could either be used to buy a pair of school shoes or donated to help provide shoes for children in need.

Learners at Mugidi Primary School receive their shoes.

Every voucher contributed directly to making a tangible difference in the lives of learners.

The campaign’s success is a testament to the Hoedspruit community’s commitment to uplifting local children.

“We are incredibly grateful for the overwhelming support,” said Thornybush Community in their statement.

“Every voucher, every pair of shoes, and every act of generosity brings us closer to our goal of ensuring that every child can walk to school safely and confidently.”

This year’s campaign also carried a poignant tribute.

The shoe drive is dedicated to the late Dominic Shubane, the late Spar Hoedspruit store manager, whose passion for community service and leadership was instrumental in building the partnership between Spar and the campaign organisers.

His dedication to supporting local children continues to inspire those who worked alongside him.

The handover ceremony at Mugidi Primary School was filled with joy and excitement as children received their new shoes.

Parents, teachers, and community members gathered to celebrate, acknowledging that these small steps make a big difference in a child’s life.

As the campaign concluded on February 8, organisers expressed deep appreciation for the Hoedspruit community.

“Your kindness and commitment to supporting our children are what make campaigns like this possible,” they said.

“Together, we are helping to create a brighter, more comfortable start to the school year for every learner.”
