Limpopo praise singer N’wambhurhi goes viral

Univen student and Xitsonga praise singer N’wambhurhi from Limpopo inspires many after her viral clan praise performance opened doors to major stages.

LIMPOPO – Known by her stage name N’wambhurhi, Ntsakelo Mukhabele, a second-year student and poet at the University of Venda (Univen), is turning a childhood passion into a powerful platform of inspiration.

Her journey began when she was just eight years old in Zion Christian Church (ZCC) Sunday school, where she first discovered her love for reciting poems and expressing herself through words.

What began as a simple opportunity in church gradually grew into a gift that helped shape her confidence and passion for cultural expression.

Over the years, poetry became more than just performance; it became a way for her to celebrate identity, heritage, and faith.

During her first year at the Univen, N’wambhurhi captured the attention of many when she recited her clan names during the student orientation programme.

The moment was recorded and later shared by Tsundzukani Hakamela and Tiyani Mboweni on social media.

The video went viral, introducing her talent to a wider audience.

The exposure opened unexpected doors, among them was the chance to usher the Limpopo premier during the G20 conference held at the Univen Stadium.

She was then invited to perform at the state of the province address, a moment she describes as both humbling and deeply meaningful.

Adding to the significance of the occasion was the presence of her spiritual leader, Bishop Barnabas Edward Lekganyane of the Zion Christian Church, in the audience.

Reflecting on the experience, N’wambhurhi said standing on such a prestigious stage reminded her of how far she has come from the young girl who first recited poetry in Sunday School.

“I want young people to look at my journey and see the reflection of what is possible,” she said.

“Especially young ZCC poets, never give up on your talent. What begins in a small place can grow into something greater. Ke Modimo wa Kgotso.”
