Mopani shooter tops Mpumalanga North competition
SA Hunters Mpumalanga North shooting competition held in Burgersfort sees Mopani marksman claim first place and Phalaborwa’s Dagha Boyz shine.
Members of the South African Hunters and Game Conservation Association (SA Hunters) gathered in Burgersfort recently for the Mpumalanga North regional president and inter-branch shooting competition, where skilled marksmen from several branches competed for top honours.
The event brought together teams and individual shooters from across the region, showcasing precision shooting, discipline, and camaraderie among members dedicated to responsible hunting and conservation.

Mopani shooter claims top honour
Representing the Mopani branch, Thinus Jansen van Vuuren delivered an outstanding performance on the range, securing first place with an impressive score of 690.11.
His consistent shooting throughout the competition placed him ahead of a strong field of competitors and earned him the top individual honour of the day.
Second place went to Kobus Janse van Rensburg of the Olifants branch, who finished with a score of 680.12.
Close behind in third place was Daniel Botha representing the Platorand branch, achieving a score of 670.09.
Phalaborwa’s Dagha Boyz impress in team category
In the team category, the Mopani branch’s well-known Dagha Boyz team from Phalaborwa competed strongly against other branches, finishing in fourth place out of eight teams that took part in the competition.
The result reflects the team’s commitment to training and their passion for the sport of shooting.
The competition was hosted by the Bosbok branch of SA Hunters, who were widely praised for the professional way in which they organised the day, and the smooth running of the event.
Participants noted the excellent range setup, clear scoring procedures, and welcoming atmosphere that contributed to the success of the day.
Competition promotes skill, safety, and conservation
Events such as the regional president and inter-branch competition play an important role in strengthening relationships between branches while promoting safe firearm handling, ethical hunting practices, and conservation awareness among members.
With strong performances from its shooters and a respectable team finish, the Mopani branch left Burgersfort proud of their achievements.
