Southern Cross learners shine in Ebenezer Mile

Despite challenging weather, Prep and College swimmers from Southern Cross Schools delivered impressive results at the 2026 Ebenezer Mile.

HOEDSPRUIT – Learners from Southern Cross Schools (Prep and College) displayed exceptional determination and resilience at the 2026 Ebenezer Mile, held last Saturday in the cold and rainy conditions of Magoebaskloof.

Faced with challenging weather, the swimmers refused to be deterred. Instead, they embraced the conditions, demonstrating courage and grit as they tackled the demanding open-water event.

Their commitment and perseverance were evident in every race, making it a memorable day for the entire team.

Among the Prep learners, several standout performances highlighted the team’s strength and depth.

Logan Rainier, with a time of 0:26:24, secured an impressive second place in the boys u/14 mile, showcasing both endurance and competitive spirit. In the girls’ u/14 mile, Rachel Talanda, Leraine Groenewald, and Franki Taylor delivered strong swims, finishing in third, fourth, and fifth place, respectively.

Their results reflect not only talent but also dedication and hard work in preparation for the event.
Equally inspiring was the participation of the younger Prep learners, from Gr 3 to Gr 7, who took part in the 500m swim.

Many of these swimmers stepped out of their comfort zones to compete in open water, demonstrating bravery and a willingness to challenge themselves.

Their enthusiasm and determination were a testament to the positive sporting culture within the school.
