Water at last for Boelang community

Boelang community celebrates as water supply is restored following flood damage that left residents without water for nearly two months.

PHALABORWA – After nearly two months without running water, residents of Boelang have finally seen their taps flow again, bringing relief and renewed hope to the community.

Nearly two months without running water

Many households endured up to 72 days without water after recent floods damaged and washed away the main supply pipelines.

While most areas now have water, some residents in higher-lying sections are still affected due to a pipe that burst last week during pipeline installation.

The prolonged outage left many residents frustrated and led to growing dissatisfaction with the leadership of Ba-Phalaborwa Municipality, particularly Mayor Merriam Malatji.

Relief as taps flow again

Cathy Abrams, a resident, told the Herald she was overjoyed to have water again.

“When I got home from work yesterday, I washed the weekend dishes and took a proper shower for the first time in months. I feel human again and dignified, able to go about my daily routine with ease,” she said.

Municipality to attend to remaining issues

Boelang Cllr Sinah Shayi said she was relieved that most residents now have access to water, despite remaining challenges.

“We have a contractor on site who will address the problem areas and install a pressure pump so that everyone can receive water at a good flow rate,” she said.
