Agri Limpopo CEO, brigadier honoured for flood heroism

Agri Lim CEO Deidre Carter and Brig Marlize Potgieter receive special awards from SAPS search-and-rescue for their assistance during Limpopo floods.

LIMPOPO – Agri Limpopo CEO Deidre Carter and Brig Marlize Potgieter were recently honoured for their outstanding community involvement during the devastating January–February floods in Limpopo.

The pair received special honorary awards during the Limpopo AgriHXpo, held at The Ranch Resort.

They were recognised by the SAPS search-and-rescue unit, including the divers and canine teams, for their vital assistance during the emergency.

There are so many unsung heroes, says Carter

Carter told the Herald that the recognition should be shared among many who stepped up when help was needed.

“I am humbled, but it is everyone’s responsibility to stand together,” she said. “This was truly a team effort.

“In Phalaborwa, the CPF, the agricultural sector, and community members all worked together to ensure people’s safety. Some provided transport to evacuate residents from flooded areas like Kambaku. Everyone played their part; I was simply one of many. There are so many unsung heroes.”

I will act without hesitation, says Potgieter

Potgieter echoed similar sentiments, saying she felt honoured but undeserving of the award. “I was simply doing my job,” she said.

“Whenever my colleagues or community members need support, I will act without hesitation.”

The AgriHXpo brought together farmers from across Limpopo and other provinces, highlighting the strength and unity of the agricultural sector.

Limpopo Premier Dr Phophi Ramathuba also attended the event, commending agriculturists for their vital contribution to the provincial and national economy.
