Arrest made after 88-year-old woman reports rape in Namakgale

Police have arrested a suspect after an 88-year-old woman reported being raped at Majeje C Village in the Namakgale policing precinct.

PHALABORWA – A 43-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the alleged rape of an 88-year-old woman at Majeje C Village in the Namakgale policing precinct.

According to police, the incident occurred during the early hours of Sunday (May 31), at the victim’s home. The elderly woman later reported the matter to authorities and was taken to hospital for a medical examination.

Following an investigation, police traced and arrested the suspect. He is expected to appear before the Lulekani Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday (June 2), facing a charge of rape.

Limpopo provincial commissioner Lt Gen Thembi Hadebe condemned the incident, reaffirming the police’s commitment to protecting vulnerable members of society.

“We remain resolute in protecting the most vulnerable members of our communities and will ensure that all the perpetrators involved are behind bars,” said Hadebe.

Police investigations into the matter are continuing.
