March and March protest to proceed through Tzaneen CBD
Motorists and businesses in the CBD have been warned to expect road closures and traffic delays while the procession moves through town.
TZANEEN – The planned “March and March” demonstration against illegal immigration in Tzaneen on Tuesday (June 30), has been given the green light to proceed.
ActionSA’s Dr Mike Ramothwala confirmed the approval following a Section 4 planning meeting held on Friday (June 26), attended by the Tzaneen SAPS station commander, CPF representatives and municipal stakeholders.
The march is being organised in line with the Regulation of Gatherings Act and has been authorised subject to strict safety and traffic conditions.
Route through the CBD confirmed
According to organisers, the procession will start on the outskirts of Tzaneen and move through the CBD along a set route.
The march will proceed along Claude Wheatley Street, turn into Stasie Street, and continue into Danie Joubert Street, where participants will stop at the Tzaneen SAPS station to hand over a memorandum of demands.
From there, the group will continue along Morgan Street and into Agatha Street, ending at the Greater Tzaneen Local Municipality offices, where a second memorandum will be delivered. The programme is expected to conclude at around 14:00.
Security and traffic measures in place
Authorities say a joint security presence will be in place on the day, including police, traffic authorities and private security, to manage crowds and help maintain order.
Ramothwala said a strong turnout is expected, adding that the march is intended to be conducted in an orderly and disciplined manner.
Motorists and local businesses have been advised to expect traffic disruptions and road closures along parts of Claude Wheatley, Stasie, Danie Joubert, Morgan and Agatha streets during the morning. Residents are urged to plan their movements accordingly.
