Soccer fans

The games were initially started by a group of soccer loving friends who normally play soccer together during the Christmas holidays.

“In 2009 we took a bigger step and formally launched the games, but at the time we only started with soccer as the years progressed the other sporting codes followed, ” explained Kiekie Mboweni, one of the games organisers.

The Dream Team was crowned soccer champions while Akani Baloyi won Player of the Tournament.

Nkowankowa Shining Stars were crowned the Netball champs and Danisa Mthombeni took Player of the Tournament.

Meanwhile Diesel and Dust took the Volleyball championships and Kgopotso Mookamedi was named player of the Tournament.

Good netball match

“I’m very happy that I got Player of the Tournament award, this is a great initiative, but I feel that it should be directed more to the younger generation.

This will improve our development and I had been working on my fitness since October and I’m glad it paid off,” said Baloyi.

The games were sponsored by local small businesses and Vuvekisi Africa Holdings was the anchor sponsor.

Sponsors of the games

Mboweni appeals to other local businesses to take part in the initiative to plough back to the community.

All the sponsors will also donate school uniform to local primary schools when the schools opens.

“We are using sports to invest in the education of our younger generation,” added Mboweni.

All the winning teams received medals and a trophy.
