Hangover prevention and cure myths

Many have sworn by some hangover cures but some are considered mere myths.

Christmas parties and the much anticipated new year’s bash can leave you running from the bottle to the nearest bucket after a night of excessive drinking.

Eish!

Prevention and myths:

  1. Myth: More alcohol stops hangovers

Doctors say that drinking more alcohol to fix a hangover is merely prolonging the inevitable. Alcohol causes a numbing affect but does not solve the issue.

  1. Myth: Eat lots of greasy food

The food you eat after a night of excessive drinking does not necessarily solve a hangover. Eating meals before drinking is a better option.

  1. Cure: Drink water

Water helps you rehydrate. Alcohol dehydrates the body which leads to hangover symptoms like headaches.

  1. Prevention: Eat well before drinking

Food helps slow the speed of alcohol absorption. This means that if you have eaten well before drinking, hangover pain may lessen the next day.

  1. Prevention: Limit alcohol intake

Try your best to pace yourself at parties. Try not to drink more than one drink within an hour and accompany drinks with a glass of water.
