Dr Tumi and Joyous Celebration to perform live at the Xitsonga Gospel Awards

The Xitsonga Gospel Music Awards event (Xigma) is back by popular demand after the event was suspended due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

This year’s awards will be held at the Giyani Stadium on Saturday, November 26.
One of the big attraction will be the presence of multi-award winning gospel group, Joyous Celebration. This week the organisers of the event also mentioned that award winning gospel star, Dr Tumi will also be among the people who will be performing live on stage.

“We are bringing the likes of Joyous Celebration and Dr Tumi to the event with the aim of trying to inspire and motivate young and upcoming artists.
“We believe their presence at the awards will make the event extra special.
“We will also have different gospel artists performing on the day,” said Ginani Mabunda, founder of Xigma.

The 2022 event has 12 categories, including two special awards called ‘Living Legend’ and ‘Posthumous’.
The awards event was conceived in 2016 by Mabunda and Howard Mashaba, but it only came into fruition in 2019.

According to Mabunda, the prizes will promote and support Xitsonga speaking gospel artists who are gifted but do not have the exposure and the necessary support to make it in the industry.
“These awards are special, because it is not for well-known artists only, but for all Xistonga gospel musicians.

XIGMA Founders, Howard Mashaba and Ginani Mabunda.

“Our main reason for choosing the genre is because gospel soothes, revitalises and mends the soul and it also unites people, something our nation needs,” he explained.
The winners of the awards will be decided by the number of votes they received. The nominees can be viewed on the Facebook page, NPPC Xigma.

To vote, SMS Xigma followed by the artist’s name and category to 45633 (SMS costs R1.50 each).
Tickets for the event are sold at Computicket, Shoprite and Usave.
General tickets are R200, golden circle R350 and VIP R1500.
