Lungi Ndala wins big at the Crown Gospel Awards

Tzaneen's Pastor Lungi Ndala was the biggest winner at the 15th Crown Gospel Awards, which were held at the International Convention Centre in Durban recently.

He walked away with three awards including Best Gospel Song of the Year, Best Gospel Artist of the Year and Best Praise Song of the Year.
Going to the event he had received six nominations and he told the Herald that the nominations were a stamp of approval that his music ministry is on the right track.

The Best Praise Song was adjudicated by industry experts; the other two categories were decided on a voting system.
“I’m over the moon with the win and at the same time humbled that God is allowing me to make an impact on a national platform,” he said.

He originally hails from Giyani, but as a young boy moved to Tzaneen, where he grew up and completed his matric at Meridian College.
He is the son of Pastor Moss and Dr Monica Ndala (the head of psychiatry at Letaba Hospital) who are also the senior pastors of the God Reigns Church in Tzaneen.

He says his father is the first person who taught him music while growing up, as he himself was a recording artist in the 1980’s.
However, the now Johannesburg-based artist, said he only started taking music seriously in 2014 after performing for 40 000 people at the Orlando Stadium at an event hosted by the Grace Bible Church.

After his performance, gospel star Solly Mahlangu, told him to start recording songs.
He then released his first album the same year and a year later recorded a live recording at the Nkowankowa Community Hall.
He has since released three studio albums.

He concluded by thanking his supporters for voting for him and supporting him throughout the years.
He has a number of events lined up this December including an event where he will be sharing a stage with Dr Tumi on December 12.
