Thapelo shares his ‘Tips’ on losing weight

As the year begins most people make resolutions to lose weight and follow a healthy lifestyle.

However, most fail to stick to their resolutions after February starts. The Herald spoke to Thapelo ‘Tips’ Motimele, a fitness expert on how to start and stay active throughout the year. Motimele believes that shedding weight begins with getting active, where you can start by walking or jogging.
He says exercising can help burn excess calories.

“You cannot lose through diet alone,” he says.
His second tip is for people to start using smaller plates when dishing food, as it will force them
to eat in smaller portions. Thirdly he encourages people to cut down on alcohol, as he is convinced drinking too much alcohol contributes to weight gain.

Lastly he encourages those who want to lose weight to stay away from junk food, no matter how tempting it may be. He believes that planning meals ahead is crucial. This makes you think about what you are going to eat, rather than eating what is just readily available. He also emphasised eating of more fruit and vegetables, drinking plenty of water and no sugary food.

He believes that starting small is key to lasting health and fitness.
“There is no need to get into the gym and start lifting a ton of weight. “Start by walking 20-30 minutes a day and by doing something small everyday, that way you are setting up an exercise habit.
“Over time you can add more challenging exercises,” Tips explained.

His services ranges from boot camp, aerobics, hiking, one on one sessions and group sessions and he also offers online training. For more information, contact Tips on 071 259 3805 or follow
