Mapungubwe is a thrilling affair

The Mapungubwe Art Festival has been bringing a touch of colour to the Limpopo province.

The event was officially launched by the MEC for Sports, Art, and Culture, Nakedi Sibanda-Kekana at Sun Meropa Casino in Polokwane recently. The festivities began on Friday, December 8, with a cultural carnival and parade from Olympic Towers to the SABC Park featuring various entertainment acts including dancers.

Theatre Nights followed on Sunday, December 10, and Monday, December 11, at the Library Gardens, where the Beyond Disability drama crew showcased their acting skills. The craft and exhibition started on Saturday, December 9, and ended on Saturday, December 16.

The crafters and exhibitors showcased diverse artifacts such as beads, earrings, belts, and African designer clothes and Limpopo artists displayed their fine art paintings. There was also marimba music, which was enjoyed by locals and delegates from India, who enjoyed local food.

On Thursday, December 14, a comedy night took place at Jack Botes Hall. This was followed by a music festival on Saturday, December 16 to 17 at the Polokwane Cricket Club. The festivities will continue into the new year until March 2024.
