BREAKING – Optimum on lockdown, miners down tools, demand answers from Ministries

Optimum Mine employees downed tools indefinitely this morning, refusing to do any work until their concerns about future employment have been addressed by national government.

Optimum’s water purification plant at Pullenshope, which supplies water to the town of Hendrina and Kwazamakuhle, remains on lockdown.

The towns have been without a drop of water for the past two weeks, and sporadically since December.

www.mobserver.co.za journalists in the field at Optimum, Hendrina and Kwazamakuhle reports that tensions are running high and that a crisis meeting with mine workers will be held tomorrow, to address salary concerns.

Water purification plant workers have warned that the water supply to Hendrina and Kwazamakuhle will have dry taps until they have been paid.
