Top Matric Achievers 2023

The Mpumalanga class of 2023 showed an improvement of 2% from last year and recorded a 77% pass rate. Nkangala District obtained 76.4% which is a 1.9% improvement from the 74.5% obtained in 2022.

In his speech, the MEC for Education, Mr Bonakele Majuba said the 2023 class had registered 67 902 candidates and 65 534 wrote all the subjects on offer.

“What is more exciting is that 21 819 of these learners qualify to register for bachelor programmes,” Majuba said.

These learners can be admitted to further their studies here at the University of Mpumalanga or all other universities in the country.

In the same breath, 17 412 of these learners qualify to enrol for diploma programmes.

“This clearly confirms that we are presenting quality results in the true meaning of the word,” Majuba said.

From the Technical High School, Tania Scheepers made a clean sweep with eight distinctions.

She was among the top 10 learners in the province with an average of
93%. Tania also did not skip one day of school in 12 years.

Morgan Eugene Tamele from Ilanga Secondary School has been awarded with a full bursary from the Mpumalanga Provincial Government, along with a host of sponsored opportunities to further his academic journey when he
achieved a perfect score of 100% in Economics.

“His mastery of the complex world of economics, from individual choices to societal incentives, is evident in his remarkable 300 out of 300 total mark.

This achievement confirms Morgan’s unwavering dedication, his passion for learning, and his natural talent for understanding the intricacies of economic systems,” Majuba said.

Thabiso Blessing Mkhwanazi from Zacheus Malaza Secondary School is a math wizard.

He obtained 100% in Mathematics and 297 out of 300 in Physical Science.
For this remarkable achievement, Thabiso was given a full bursary from the Mpumalanga Provincial Government, R20 000 from Sasol, and a host of sponsored tokens.

Londeka Mbokane from St Thomas Aquinas School wrote the Independent Examinations Board (IEB) exam and placed under the top 1% in Business Studies in the country.

Our Matric Class of 2023 attained a 100% pass rate. Nineteen candidates sat for their finals, Thirteen bagged bachelors while the other 6 attained diplomas, placing the school on the number one spot in the Nkangala District.
