Man found hanging from tree in Gholfsig

Bystander makes grim discovery near golf course.

A man’s body, with visible wounds to his face, was discovered hanging from a tree in Gholfsig this morning.

The discovery was made by a passer-by who wanted to wash his hands in a stream that feeds water to the golf course.

The Middelburg Observer was alerted to the death by a member of the public at 11:00.
Upon the journalist’s arrival, bystanders who gathered around the tree, were still waiting for emergency services to arrive, but Mid Alarms was on the scene.

According to bystanders, the man had wounds on his cheeks, suggesting he was possibly assaulted.
ER24 arrived later to pronounce the man dead and were still waiting for police to arrive.

A handful of bystanders recognised the man, but he has not yet been formally identified.

The incident happened in the open field near Eeufees Street- and Totius Street’s junction.
