Update: Crying ‘victim’ Sonto Skosana arrested

A policeman, a saleswoman from Middelburg Nissan and three other suspects were arrested in connection with the robbery of a Nissan Qashqai last week Thursday.

Sonto Skosana, who works at Middelburg Nissan, was discovered next to the road to the Keerom plots (second gravel road on Loskopdam Road from Dennesig) on Thursday at about 15:00. Her hands were tied with cable ties.

Skosana seemed visibly upset and sobbed bitterly on the scene. She was comforted by one of her employers. She told bystanders that she took a man for a test drive and that he and his accomplice tied her up, dropped her next to the road and made off with the vehicle.

“He asked to test drive the vehicle for a while and drove onto the Loskopdam road. Just past Dennesig he picked up another man.”

According to her they tied her up, robbed her of her cell phone and jewelry and dropped her off in the field on the gravel road. She was not injured in the process.

Three more people, Nonhlanhla Sibiya, Zwelihle Mawesa and Thulani Maseko were arrested on the same day.

It came to light during their bail application on Thursday, that the vehicle estimated to be worth R350 000 has since been recovered.

• Skosana is accused for perjury and contribution to theft of a vehicle. The other four face a charge of theft of a motor vehicle. Bail of R1 000 each was granted.

• Skosana has been working for Middelburg Nissan for the past 10 months.
