Video: Thousands of fish killed at Eikeboom Pan

Thousands of fish have died at Eikeboom Pan just outside Middelburg in what seems to be yet another environmental disaster being blamed on the discharge of toxic substances into the water.

The carcasses of large birds also litter the shoreline which is covered in a white, rough salty substance.

The smell of death engulfs the area which is rich in wildlife, fauna and flora.

The Eikeboom Pan is situated about 30 km outside Middelburg on the Hendrina road and this is not the first time an incident like this has happened.

Three years ago a similar disaster unfolded at the exact same Pan and the Middelburg SPCA were called in to perform an emergency slaughter of all the fish affected.
