Rabie Ridge Drum Majorrette baton twirler leader set sights high on her future goals

Rabie Ridge Drum Majorrette baton twirler leader set sights high on her future goals.

Aliyah Macpherson is a 12-year-old baton twirler leader who leads the Rabie Ridge Drum Majorettes.

Her story is an inspiring one, and she has come a long way to achieve what she has today.

When Aliyah’s father passed away, she began to feel the weight of his loss in her life. She did not know how to deal with it and was looking for a way to cope.

She then discovered the drum majorettes, and it became her escape and a welcome distraction from her grief.

Initially, Aliyah did not intend to pursue baton twirling, however, she found that being a majorette was an exciting activity for her, and she was passionate about it.

She learned about the Rabie Ridge club when she saw the girls practising and was intrigued. She wanted to know more about their squad and decided to join them in 2021.

Since then, Aliyah has grown from strength to strength and has become the field commander of the majorettes.

Being a leader comes with a lot of responsibilities, and the Dulcie September Primary School Grade 7 learner understands this very well.

“Being a leader comes with managing the team and keeping them organised, which takes a lot of understanding and patience. I believe that a leader must remain calm in any situation, avoid favouritism, listen attentively to everyone’s opinions, and find the best solution to please all the girls,” she explained.

Aliyah has big dreams of becoming an astronaut scientist, and not only does she aspire to get Gauteng colours from the Gauteng Majorette and Cheerleading Association as a baton twirler, but she has also set her sights high on her future goals.

Despite her busy schedule, Aliyah manages her time efficiently and plans her time by dividing it between school, church, and practice.

According to her, discipline is the key, and her mother has always been supportive of her dreams and has her back.
