Cricket lovers enjoy annual Super Sixes on Freedom Day in Midrand

Midrand Old Timers Keshav Lutchman walked away with the highest runs (214) as well as the most sixes (23) hit by an individual player.

The Midrand Cricket Club (MCC) hosted its annual Super Sixes tournament to end the 2023/24 cricketing season on April 27 and 28.
The two-day tournament was held at the Olifantsfontein Sports Grounds, MCC’s home ground.

Six teams entered the competition including Midrand Old Timers, Macalegusha, Duke Sunrisers, Midrand Monsters, Etwatwa Cricket Club and The Knights.
MCC chairperson Siphiwe Mgandela said the first day saw each team play each other in a round-robin format and at the end of the day, Etwatwa were top of the log with five out of five wins.
Midrand Old Timers were second with four wins and Midrand Monsters were third with three victories.

“The bottom half saw Macalegusha end fourth with three wins, the Knights fifth with one win and Duke Sunrisers sixth with no wins,” he said.
“On the second day, each team played a game to finalise the round-robin stage and to see who gets to play in the respective finals.”

He added the much-awaited final for first and second place was between Midrand Old Timers and the unbeaten youngsters from Etwatwa. Midrand Old Timers held their nerve to win by seven runs.

Keshav Lutchman from Midrand Old Timers walked away as the highest run scorer (214) as well as the most sixes hit by an individual player (23). The best bowler of the tournament was awarded to Bandile Khumalo from Etwatwa with a tally of six wickets.
