New shoes for working horses
MIDRAND - The Society for Animals in Distress has launched a campaign that will better the lives of many horses, as well as their owners.

Project Pedicure, which is the organisation’s brainchild, is being rolled out in partnership with The Laser Beautique. Through the initiative, working horses in townships will be given shoes.
To launch the campaign, the organisations took to Tembisa where 40 of the approximately 250 horses were given ‘pedicures.’
According to Carmen Douglas-Kilfoil, the horses are used to transport coal and the new shoes would help in their productivity.
“For every pedicure or manicure booked at their salon from 1 July until 31 September 2013, The Laser Beautique will donate R20 to Project Pedicure,” she said.
Reigning Mrs South Africa Fekile Mekgoe was also in attendance and was pampered side-by-side with one of the horses.
Salon owner Tzvia Hermann said her company hoped to assist the animal organisation by providing not only funds for their project but to also create awareness among the public of the work that they do for these communities, and the animals that live in them.
