The SPCA needs your help

MIDRAND - The Midrand SPCA is in desperate need of food and blankets for the animals in their care.

The organisation, established in 1991, was well supported by members of the community in the past. However, according to manager Elsje Naicker, there has been a remarkable drop in pet food donations.

“This has resulted in us looking elsewhere for sponsorships which has not always been successful,” said Naicker.

As we head to the winter period, members of the public are asked to donate pet food as well as blankets to keep the animals warm.

“To feed a feline or canine resident amounts to about R100 per month and the number of abandoned, donated or stray pets can vary from 120 to 200 at any given time,” she said.

Naicker also pointed out that there has been a noticeable trend in people relocating or moving into smaller dwellings due to the current economy and could no longer afford to keep their pets.

“We are asking the kind residents to please assist us in donating pet food as our reserves are very low at this point. Dry pellets for both cats and dogs are needed and any brand is much appreciated,” said Naicker.

A Kennel Sponsorship is also available which amounts to R1 200 per year (once off payment) or R100 per month (tax certificates can be issued on request).

“We thank all our regular supporters for their continuous donations, we are very grateful for your kindness and love for the animals in our care,” Naicker concluded.
